Richmond Flying Squirrels' Fourth of July Jerseys Auctioned for Charity, Leaving Lasting Impact

 In 2013, the Richmond Flying Squirrels introduced their Fourth of July Cheap mlb jerseys, which have become a tradition for the team. The jerseys feature a red base, with the team's "R" logo and numbers adorned with the patriotic colors of the American flag.

For the past 10 seasons, these jerseys were passed down from player to player. Notable names such as Hunter Strickland, Matt Duffy, and Frankie Tostado have donned these jerseys on America's birthday.

In a recent auction that concluded last Tuesday, the Flying Squirrels auctioned off these special Fourth of July jerseys. While the players may feel a sense of nostalgia as they part ways with these pieces of team history, the proceeds from the auction go towards benefiting charities.

Hannah DeFrank, the director of business operations for the Flying Squirrels, works closely with charities and scholarships to ensure that the proceeds from the jersey auctions are put to good use. The most recent Fourth of July auction raised over $6,200.

Planning for these auctions begins a year in advance, coinciding with the team's schedule for the season. Depending on the year, Richmond aims to hold six to nine auctions in total.

The Flying Squirrels collaborate with four different scholarships and multiple charities. DeFrank emphasized that the money generated from the jersey auctions directly supports these causes. Over the years, the team has shifted its focus from rebuilding baseball fields to a broader range of initiatives, including athletics, education, inclusion, and addressing social determinants.
